Really cool video! So well made and just the right length. I have chickens in part because of you. You brought Sweetpea to a class at 18 Reasons 18 months or so ago. My vegetable garden did so poorly this year, time to do more soil amendment. Got the chicken poop compost going, so that should help. No goats in my future. Maybe rabbits....
LOVE the name of your farm, and what you are doing inside San Francisco. I love hearing about other farms in action. We used to live in SF when I was a teenager and maybe had a 200 sq ft backyard and had the whole thing planted full of veggies. Now me and my husband live in Vallejo (next to American Canyon) and we have 1/3 acre with 34 fruit trees, grapes, berries, 27 laying chickens, 20 meat chickens, 4 rabbits, and we had a goat and will be getting 2 more soon. We have veggie gardens galore and I have been canning for the past 3 weeks since our fruit trees are loaded! We are getting Muscovy ducks in February and bees in April! Can't wait. Love the concept of Barnyard in your Backyard. Happy homesteading!
Great video Heidi, I loved it and am going to share it with some of the folks around here who I am working with to make them more aware of urban agriculture. Right now, I am dealing with a crisis as someone made a complaint about our bees and we are fighting archaic ordinances in San Mateo....would you believe something that says your hives need to be 25 ft from your own house?!? More later.
Beautiful. There is someone super "cool" about trying to live more like our ancestors. If we'd only understood how wise they truly were to live so frugal and off of their land...bartering with neighbors. What a life! Now, we ache for that kind of life.
so lovely to see that you graze your goats in McLaren Park! I did a permaculture design with a few friends several years ago, and we envisioned McLaren Park as an abundant food forest, with a goat grazing coop!!
I teach on Fridays but look forward to meeting you two ladies someday. all blessings
Fabulous! Congrats on getting featured by the Whole Foods blog and Twitter feed! How great is that?
We are only renting, but we do have the whole container garden and "portable" square foot gardening thing going on. So eventually we hope to get our own land...however much that will be and expand a bit. We are vegan so no animals, but we would like to do the kind bee-keeping thing...especially since bee populations have been dying off like crazy!
Thank you so much for sharing your world with us! :)

ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, I love this! I had no idea what your set up was - it was awesome to see it, all tucked into the city. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteGREAT video! Now I'm jealous, and wish I had such a garden, at least, if not a farm. :-D

I LOVE your video. Do you have a you tube series of vids? If not, you really should. You're good. I love the goats,

ReplyDeleteGreat job.
ReplyDeleteLoved it!!! I like the vertical space you have for your goats; I've tried to build up for ours a bit, but would love to do more.
ReplyDeleteWe just broke our record here in Dallas of hottest summer ever/most days over 100 (70 days). I sure miss California.

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely charming film! Wish I had the guts to try something like this, we have a huge garden. The goat walking made me giggle :)
