Backyard Eats

OROAR is officially a success. I am pleased to report that we are now harvesting Red Russian and Nero Toscana kale, broccoli raab, and cilantro at least three to four times a week. Celery, parsley, carrots, and beets are looking good and it shouldn't be much longer until we begin to harvest these as well. The peas have a ways to go, but fortunately we live in a year round pea growing climate. Cheers to greens!

  1. So glad to hear you're managing to keep those pesky ratties away. Go go greens!

  2. I was thinking of you the other morning when I spilled a *lot* of chick starter feed in the garden shed. One side has pea gravel (which is, of course, where I spilled), the other side is a plywood floor. I'm convinced we have mice nesting in there, so now I've given them a feast as well! I put out mouse traps a while ago, and someone or something licked all the peanut butter off. Crafty little suckers. On Sunday I enacted a new plan. I locked three of the chickens in the shed and let them eat up the pile of baby food. Next problem - how to get chickens out of shed...

  3. Yay for getting rats under control! When we lived in Napa our neighbors told us horror stories about the previous tenants in our house. Our neighbor was killing 14 rats A DAY!!!

Fortunately we have a dog that loves to kill rodents so she's kept rats under control.
